Week of August 24, 2015

August in Maine, when sunflowers bloom, swallows rest on electric lines, a time when the line between summer and fall blurs.

So, while some days we are trying to enjoyment the last days of summer,
the apples ripening on the trees shout that fall is coming.

The weather the last few weeks has been variable.
While some of the state has been hot and humid,
Mt. Desert Island and the upper coast have been cool.
Fog, has swathed the coast in grey.

FOG OFF OF BAR HARBOR

One of my most favorite parts of the state is the upper coast, which starts at Ellsworth. If you visit Maine, please build in time to see part of it.

Mt. Desert Island is the home of Acadia National Park. It is worth the time to see it. There is Cadillac Mountain, with incredible views. And, at certain times of the year, one can be the first to see the sun rise, when standing at the top. Acadia is also home to an incredible number of flora species- over 862. There are places in to sit and do nothing, while gazing at the ocean, or one can hike trails, or use the old carriage roads for biking. And if one likes to be on the water, Frenchman’s bay has incredible sailing, and one can also kayak.

Can you tell I love it there?
