Maine in March is a conundrum…. A wintery/spring mix bringing a mix of frustration and relief.
As the days lengthen into spring, and the ground thaws,
signs of a Maine spring abound.
Cycles of freezing and thawing usher in the new season. One wakens to new snow one day, and two days later sunny skies remind one that June is going to really, really happen!

Around March 15th, the water changes.

sparkly water is seen. No longer is the sea grey, but a deep sparkliing blue.

As the ground thaws the first signs of spring are snowdrops pushing up through old oak leaves.
Surrounded by snow, they appear fragile, but must be some of the toughest of flowers to brave the cold and warming weather cycles typical of a Maine March.
