The new camera arrived! We have pictures again!

As some of you know, my camera died. It was at least 15 years old, and been subjected to rain, sand, freezing, and more. It was just a point and click camera, but it did its job.

I ordered a camera, it came, it was light weight, but it was not threaded, and for the beach one has to have a filter- flying sand in the winter is not good for a lens. And, the memory card was inserted on the bottom. No good! When we are shooting fabric pictures the images are checked after each fabric. The fabric and camera are left in place in case a shot needs to be redone. Taking the camera on and off of the tripod is not an option. So, it went back.

I called and talked to a camera person about what we needed, the second camera’s place for inserting the memory card was on the side, I was assured. It came, but, nope- it also was on the bottom. It went back.

The third camera arrived… it seems as if it is one of the few that does take the memory card on the side. Success. But, it is so far removed from my small point and click camera that the new one seems like a totally different thing!

LEARNING CURVE~

One of the things that I have missed this winter is time to get out and about for pictures. And the death of the old camera really brought home how accustomed I was to always having a camera with me! But, some of us don’t like change. And this new camera has a lot to get used to…

So, taking a deep breath, I took it on a Spot walk yesterday. The first thing is, it is HEAVY… I weighed it.. an extra 2.6.2 lbs in my purse! Some things will have to go! I need some things… wallet, epi pens, etc… this is going to take a bit of work! And big, it has a long lens, which it came with, so it takes up a lot of room. Also, I can’t wear heavy gloves to work with it… But, as my hands have been frost bitten, heavy gloves are a necessity… Getting used to this is going to be a work in progress!

This winter, as most of you know we have had a good old fashioned Maine winter. We have a lot of snow… drifts up to the window sills, icicles down to the first floor. Spot and I take a walk nearly every day after work. But, with all of the snow and ice we have not been able to walk the meadow… it is too deep for Spot, his paws fill up with snow, and he can hurt a leg that has been previously injured. The beach is also out, as one can’t get across the parking lot to get to it. So, we have been walking the Reach Road. This is a private road to a house that gets plowed; the owner allows dogs and walkers to use it for walking. They even carve out a parking spot! The walk is a mile in to where the road becomes the owners actual driveway, so its a good long walk at the end of the day!

The Reach Road runs through woods
that press closely up to it.

Though slightly gloomy in places,
it is very protected from wind.
It can be zero degrees F,
with the wind blowing outside of the woods,
but on the road one can walk in comparative comfort.

In places the woods are thinner,
and sun light shines in.

If there is snow in the tops of the trees,
and if the wind is blowing,
it flies into the air!

Out in the meadows Spot ranges fairly far from me.
Here, he stays very close,
often right by my side.
He is not nearly as comfortable here in the gloom of the trees.

The bent tree, covered with snow,
signals our turning point.
Spot always there first, waiting.
We turn,
and head back to the car, home, and dinner.
