Week of July 27, 2015

Well, it is hard to believe, but the last week of July is here… where has the summer gone?

The last six weeks have been a blur here at Brick House Fabrics. Spot herniated some discs, requiring him to be on a total shut down, including no stairs. Debbie had to have an operation. I literally don’t remember a lot of the last month except for a lot of grey, clammy days!

But, things are looking up… Spot seems to have turned a corner, and Debbie is better! Yeah! Now, if the weather would move out of the glooms to sun for the last of the summer we would be happy!

Farm stands are in full swing here. I frequent Spears for their kale pesto and micro greens. They also have great spinach, which Spot loves! If you are driving up Rt. 1 they have a stand in Waldoboro, and others off of Rt. 1 as well.

I go to Beth’s for pickling cukes and strawberries. You can see Beth’s signs everywhere along roads between Waldoboro and Camden. There is a joke that all roads lead to Beth’s!

But, no matter if you go to farm stands or to farmer’s markets, it is wonderful to be able to get freshly grown and picked produce. Many of the stands now prepare things as well… bread, cookies, and more. So, if you are in Maine, stop at one of the local stands to get the best there is, from berries to corn.

Nothing says summer like beautiful, fresh produce!

Being slammed with orders over the last month has left no time for writing and no time for listing. There are several new fabrics in, a quaint chicken fabric, two Indiennes, a new ocean fabric, and the reversible coral/starfish in navy. The first ray of sun that hits us, the camera will be going full tilt!
