Lemon lilies have bloomed! Summer is here!

While the weather remains unsettled… warm one day, cold and damp the next, the blooming flowers say it all… it is summer. And the first of the daylilies to bloom here are the lemon lilies.

Every year many, many plants are hybridized. And while every year there is a bigger hosta, a daylily with more fluting, a new color of echinacea, or a wild variation of heucheras, for me there is nothing as lovely as a straight specie… the plant from which others are derived.

Perhaps they aren’t as big, or have as long a bloom period, but often, they have some trait that is missing from some of the over-bred plants pushed on the market. And, what is more wonderful than looking forward to a special flower, even though fleeting? That in itself makes it special.

While plant break throughs can be spectacular, the lemon lily flowers, with their delicate form and lovely fragrance that fills the garden, is wonderful enough.

Well, we are down to six new fabrics that need to be listed. There are three Indienne Fabrics, a Scalamandre parrot fabric, another bird fabric, and a quaint fabric with birds, berries, and flowers that says “summer”!

We will be working on these this week, as well as getting a large number of destash pieces up.

So, watch the fabric blog!
